Thank you for the reminder of this important day in the life of Calvin Coolidge, becoming our 30th President. His reaction: “I thought I could swing it.” Coolidge was a cautious man. He had undoubted carefully consider what he would do if called to the Presidency. He was also aware that President Harding had never recovered fully from a very serious case of influenza that struck him hard in the early months of 1923. Coolidge mentions this in his “Autobiography.”
